Richard qualified in 1984 from the Royal London Hospital. He gained an endodontic specialist masters degree in 1993 with distinction.

As well as working as an endodontic specialist at 99 Harley Street London, he has been a Senior Clinical Part-time lecturer in Endodontology at the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute, University College London teaching on the MSc and MClinDent endodontic courses from 1994 through to 2011. He became Director of Endodontic Courses within the Eastman CPD unit from 2003 until 2011, where he established the very successful Certificate and Diploma in Endodontics, a part-time course for general practitioners wanting to specialise and improve their standard of root canal treatment. The course is being run now by two of his students that originally took the course!

During this time he pursued his other passion for Innovation and Information Technology. He finished writing a clinical software programme in 2012 called Endobiz, the use of which has revolutionised his practice management allowing cloud-based technology to be used in clinical dentistry. His surgery is full of innovative features he has designed and implemented to enhance treatment efficiency and comfort for his patients.

He established the Academy of Advanced Endodontics during 2014 within 99 Harley Street, to teach general practitioners, training specialists and registered Endodontic Specialists within a working practice environment, demonstrating real world endodontics. Teaching innovations include live treatment sessions from the surgery and the use of self-designed 3D printed ‘Academy’ teeth for teaching endodontic procedures. Practitioners are introduced to treatment concepts he is pioneering such as ‘Targeted Endodontics’, ‘Guided Endodontics’, virtual periapical radiographs and the thick slice technique for time shifted diagnosis.

He has lectured nationally and internationally and has written research papers for refereed journals, as well as being an academic referee for the British Dental Journal and the International Endodontic Journal.

He is married with 3 children and two amazing grandchildren. If he had any spare time he would hang out with his family, go to the gym, play tennis, fly a helicopter and stop eating chocolate. That will be never then.
